Spring didn’t just arrive this time… it unfurled 🌿
Here in Southwest Idaho, you can feel it the second you step outside. The earth has softened underfoot, the last traces of snow have slipped quietly into memory, and the valley is stretching awake in color again. That green has returned—the real kind—threaded with bees, birdsong, and the low hum of life rebuilding itself.
The orchards are beginning their soft spectacle, blossoms opening like small lanterns in whites, blush pinks, and pale gold. Farmers are already moving through the fields, steady and grounded, turning soil that still remembers winter but is ready for what comes next.
Mornings still carry that familiar edge—cool, clean, a little bracing—but by afternoon the warmth settles in, lingering in the 70s, brushing your skin like a promise. It’s that unmistakable Idaho rhythm: breath of chill, wash of sun, and a landscape slowly exhaling back into itself.

Cold Cocktail : Deschutes River Shandy
Inspired by the Cold Spring Melting Snow - A bright, slightly wild-weather drink… sunshine with a cool breeze tucked inside.
Ingredients
1 bottle Deschutes Fresh IPA (or any light citrus-forward IPA)
2 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz honey syrup (equal parts honey + warm water)
Splash of sparkling water
Fresh rosemary or mint
Ice
Instructions
Fill a tall glass with ice like you’re building a little glacier.
Add lemon juice + honey syrup, stir until it softens.
Pour in the beer slowly (let it bloom, not foam over).
Add a splash of sparkling water for lift.
Garnish with rosemary or mint and a lemon slice.
Taste Golden, citrusy, slightly herbal. It feels like standing in a field when the sun comes out after a cold snap.
🌿 The Thread That Connects It All
This shandy loves:
Citrus
Herbs
Light smoke from grilling
Fresh, seasonal ingredients
It’s less “winter feast” and more “door open, shoes off, sun lingering” energy.

🌮 Cinco de Mayo Beer-Marinated Street Tacos (Henry Weinhard’s Edition)
These feel like twilight tacos… grill warming, music drifting, citrus in the air 🍋🔥
🥩 Ingredients (for the marinade)
1 bottle Henry Weinhard’s lager 🍺
1 lb flank steak or chicken thighs
Juice of 2 limes
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp chili powder
Salt + pepper
Optional: splash of orange juice for a softer citrus note
🔥 Instructions
Marinate the meat
In a bowl, combine beer, lime juice, garlic, oil, and spices.
Add meat and let it soak for at least 2–4 hours (overnight if you can).
The beer tenderizes while adding a subtle malty depth.
Grill or sear
Cook over high heat until nicely charred on the edges.
You want that slight crisp… that’s where the magic lives.
Rest & slice
Let the meat rest, then slice thin against the grain.
Build your tacos
Tortilla → meat → onion → cilantro → squeeze of lime.
That’s it. Let the flavors speak.
🌿 Toppings (keep it simple, street-style)
Warm corn tortillas
Fresh cilantro
Diced white onion
Lime wedges
Crumbled queso fresco (optional)
Salsa or hot sauce
🌶️ Why This Works
The beer marinade brings a soft bitterness + malt that deepens the flavor
Lime + garlic brighten everything (echoing your shandy pairing beautifully)
It’s simple, unfussy, and built for gathering
Pair with Cold River Shandy
*"Contains alcohol: for 21+ cooks only. Please enjoy and share responsibly.”
